Localization of the SDGs and local democracy
Citizen participation in the implementation of global agendas
About this process
We invite you to share examples of localization of the SDGs and citizen participation practices, as well as to comment on the other ideas.
The question of how to localize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the associated targets has proven to be crucial for Local Governments. Despite the fact that the SDGs are universal in nature, their implementation will happen at a local level and so local context, constraints and opportunities need to be taken into consideration.
The IOPD wants to collect practices of the SDGs implementation and their relationship with local democracy. Therefore, SDG 11 and SDG 16 are especially relevant
Goal 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
11.3 By 2030, enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries
Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions
16.7 Ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels
